I say that splitting up an already small player base isn't a smart idea, even when the idea itself might be tempting. Also 'most of the people in high end pvp' is more accurate.

But i think it might bring back some players aswell
There is alot of players who are waiting till something happens to gw, Untill then they are inactive.

Guild Wars is what it is. No new expansions are coming out. GW2 is what "most" people are waiting for.
Maybe these players who are waiting for something to happen just moved on to different games.

I think it is at least worth a try - just to see how popular it is. If it gets jaded players back into the game then I'm all for it.
Currently jaded atm btw...

It'd be fun to try for a weekend, but I don't see a lot of merit in this idea as a 'longterm' solution.

Seeing as the game is already dead on normal ladder except on certain times:
No.

Izzy mentioned ages ago on weapon of choice that they would consider using the AT system for different tournament types possibly with limited formats (proph only for example) once the bugs had been ironed out of the system. This was before the system went online. So it is at least possible to do something like this.
I've mentioned this on Andrew Patricks talk page and was told it would be passed on, but given I've heard nothing about its likely something they decided wouldn't happen or that they have no plans to do anything about it in the near future.

I support this idea or at least..
1. Make Pvp Fun Weekend event that would allow u play only prophecies skills in gvg ( ladder and at ), motivated by double champ points.
2. Add Tourneys for only prophecies skills and characters.

I'd love to see them run a proph-only weekend, and then everyone can discover how the beloved "golden-age" meta is completely gone with all the skill and item changes since then...

I don't know if I'd like a permanent ladder for it, but it would be fun to do for a weekend, or just every once in awhile, or for an alternative tournament one time or something.

prophecies + core weekends.
the game would be pretty crippled without the core skills. lack of reversal of fortune ftl.

A Prophecies + core special Tournament series could be fun. Sort of like they did with the [rawr] cup.

Pretty novel idea for a fun weekend IMO. Maybe even lock ladder if you feel the need to for that weekend (becuz ladder r srs).

Problem is this wouldn't work as in the "good old days" since the "good old skills" have already been changed to balance with the new ones.

Just core proffessions option would be good enough to improve game play, I guess they can keep extensions skills in, but just eliminate the use of extension characters by choice of participating parties. You will get seprate ladders and one will become more popular, and my bet is that it will be core professions only play.

After thinking about it a bit I have to agree, just core skills should be enough for an interesting game. Prophecies skills give too many additional options.
